Foreign visitors to Vietnam increase

The number of foreign tourist to Vietnam in the first seven months of 2010 reached 2.93 million, up 34.9 percent compared to last year’s period, says the General Statistics Office.
China has the most visitors to Vietnam (512,000), followed by the Republic of Korea (289,000), the US (267,000), and Japan (240,000).
According to specialists, this is the result of Vietnam’s tourism policies and promotion campaigns by tourism businesses for the capital’s millennial anniversaries and other major celebrations.
They said businesses should take full advantage of Vietnam’s ASEAN chairmanship to promote the country’s image and improve the quality of services and infrastructure. This is the most effective way to attract more foreign tourists to Vietnam.
The tourism sector has set a target to attract about 4.2 million visitors to the country in 2010.
